Support the Snack Shack
Written by Jody Becker

Parents:

Thank you for your continued help and support in the CYA Snack Shack.  Your volunteer hours and your patronage in feeding yourself and your families translates into being able to do more for your players, teams, and facilities at the fields.  CYA gets better and better because of YOU!  We also thank you for your patience as we fine tune coverage issues and concerns.

Just to clarify, every team has specific assigned time slots to cover with a parent working in the concession stand.  We assigned specific slots so it wasn't feast or famine in having consistent coverage.  The schedule is posted under the Snack Shack link to the left.  Your team is only responsible for the time slots where the Team Name is recorded.  Talk to your Team Manager about coordinating to fill these slots.   Your Manager is welcome to trade slots between teams.  That is totally between the teams trading.  All we need is an adult worker to arrive for each scheduled one hour shift.  We don't need to know the name of who is coming and it doesn't have to be the same person for all 5 of your team slots.  We like both old and new faces.     (And if you can grill for us, we LOVE you!)

Regarding kids fulfilling assigned shifts:  An adult is what is needed for food prep and money management.  Children can come with their parent as long as the parent is supervising the child.  The shack is small and it doesn't take much to create a crowd.  We love our kids and we love yours too!  We just ask that adults fulfill the required hours and kids are extra help as needed.

Lastly, teenagers needing Community Service Hours are encouraged to contact the Snack Shack Coordinators directly.  We are happy to support your teens in this manner.  We keep a log of all service hours worked in the Snack Shack.  Upon completion of your teen's hours, they receive a Certificate of Completion signed by our Coordinator/s to turn in to their school.  We are thrilled so many teens have chosen to share their time with us.  There are many jobs they can fulfill in the concession stand.   Adults are still required to supervise money management and food prep so teenagers are working in addition to adults from each assigned team.

On behalf of the Snack Shack Coordination Team (Jody Becker, Mike Edwards, Karen Lowe, Jill Fernald), we thank you again for your continued help and support!

CYA Baseball Is Looking for a Few Good Grillers!
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 17 September 2009

The response to our Snack Shack has been terrific. A big part of our success revolves around the ability to provide both hot (grilled) and cold food along with beverage items. In order to provide these items, we need certified food service volunteers. As such, we are asking for your support in obtaining a Fairfax County Food Safety certificate. All you need to do is attend a 90 minute workshop. This will allow us to continue our program as the certificate is good for 5 years!

Below (click on "Read more") is the information from Fairfax County on the available workshops. Once certified, please let our Snack Shack coordinator This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it know.

Dream Season Ends in Heartbreaker for Chantilly American
Written by Administrator
Saturday, 15 August 2009

The Chantilly American All Stars are finaly coming home after an amazing post season ride that they will never forget. The team was well matched with Warner Robins (GA) in the Southeast Region Tournament, but ended up falling 6-3 in the Southeast Region Final.

Chantilly American came from behind to tie the game at 3 after home runs by Mike Sciorra and Grant Bain. Georgia took the lead again after a batted ball caromed off of a baserunner's foot which led to a throwing error on a rundown at the plate that allowed two runs to score. An appeal was made to the umpire crew as to whether the ball (a perfect double play ball to short) hit the baserunner, but after an umpire conference the play stood. For all those watching the game on ESPN, with the benefit of instant replay, it was clear that the ball hit the baserunner. The umpire crew didn't see it that way, that's baseball. Warner Robins held Chantilly scoreless after that to seal the victory and a trip to the Little League World Series in South Williampsort, PA. Good luck to Warner Robins as they represent the Southeast Region.

Despite the heartbreaking nature of the defeat, the Chantilly American team has had a remarkable run as the first Chantilly Little League team to play in a regional final. The entire Chantilly community is proud of all that our boys accomplished this season.

Chantilly American players are Mike Sciorra, Andrew Kim, Aaron Osbourne, Eason Recto, Grant Bain, Colby Matthews, Matt Hogle, Lukas Foley, Alex Tsai, Ryne Siesky,Kordell Hutzell, and Keegan Kelly. Manager Sean Matthews and Coach Cary Sciorra.
