Chantilly Little League is an all-volunteer organization. With over 600 players, and approximately 50 teams, there's a lot to do to organize and administer the league. Managers, coaches, league administrators, all with real jobs in addition to countless hours preparing for practices and games, putting together the season, preparing fields, issuing equipment, you name it.

Chantilly Baseball is always looking for more volunteers to help us provide the best possible baseball experience for our youngsters.

Chartered by Little League Baseball, Chantilly Little League is comprised of two leagues, American and National, based on geographic location. The American League consists of players who generally live on the southern side of Route 50 and the National League draws from those who live on the northern side (for details, visit the LL Boundary Checker).  In the fall, a non-Little League Baseball program is sponsored for the same age group.  In addition, Challenger Baseball gives mentally and physically challenged boys and girls, ages 5 to 18, the opportunity to participate in an athletic environment structured to their abilities.

For the Spring season, each league (American and National) is divided into four divisions:

Minors - A (Single A)
Minors - AA (Double A)
Minors - AAA (Triple A)
Majors

Chantilly Baseball offers three Divisions of play for participants who are “league age” 9-12:  AA, AAA, and Majors.  In addition, CYA offers a Single A Division for participants who are “league age 7 and 8.  For the Fall 2009 season, “league age” is the participant’s age on April 30, 2010:

A participant born on or between the dates of May 1, 2000, and April 30, 2001, is league age 10.

A participant born on or between the dates of May 1, 1998, and April 30, 1999, is league age 12.
A participant born on or between the dates of May 1, 1997, and April 30, 1998, is league age 13.

NOTE: This age chart is for baseball divisions only, and only for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011.

When participants register using CYA’s online registration system, they are assigned to a Division based on their league age:  AA for 9 year olds, AAA for 10 year olds, and Majors for 11 and 12 year olds.  However, the Division each participant is ultimately assigned to depends upon a combination of ability level, desired level of competition, and league age.  For example, a league age 8 year old (or 7 year old in special circumstances) may “play up” to AA, a league age 9 year old (or 8 year old in special circumstances) year old may “play up” to AAA, and a league age 10 year old (or 9 year old in special circumstances) may “play up” to Majors.

Majors represents the most competitive level of baseball for the 9-12 year old age group, and has the least amount of minimum playing time requirements (minimum of 2 innings in the field and 1 plate appearance).  Although each league age 12 year old will play Majors unless a specific request to play AAA is approved by little league (new for 2008), many league age 11 year olds will end up remaining in AAA through the competitive draft procedures.  A league age 11 year old may also opt to play AAA (and need not obtain any waiver).  All league age 10 and 11 year olds are guaranteed a spot in AAA (if they don’t try out for Majors or are not drafted by a Majors team).  Likewise all league age 9 year olds are guaranteed a spot in AA.  In special circumstances, and upon request, a league age 10 year old may opt to play AA and a league age 9 year old may opt to play in CYA Baseball’s Single A Division (primarily for league age 7 and 8 year olds on a smaller field).

Parents or guardians may request for participants to “play up” or opt to a lower Division using the “special requests” field during online registration (and responding “yes” to the question about “play up” if applicable) or by contacting the little league Board’s official Registrar.  League officials reserve the right to grant or deny such requests.  Unless your request has been specifically rejected, you should plan on bringing your player to the tryout for the desired Division of play.  Tryout times and locations will be posted on CYA’s little league baseball web site and sent to participants via email.  Requests to “play up” may not be filled depending on the results of the draft following tryouts.  Those participants desiring to “play up”, but not selected at the desired Division of play, will automatically be assigned to the pool of available players at the next appropriate Division.

The spring season opens on or about April 15th and regular season play continues through the end of the school year.  In addition, there are opportunities for competitive post season tournament play.  Minors teams generally play an average of two games per week (one on Saturday, one on a weekday evening), while Majors teams have some weeks with three games and play a few double headers.  Practices are scheduled at the discretion of the individual team managers.

The success of our program is the result of hard work and dedication of countless volunteers.  Managers,
coaches, team
mom’s, fundraisers, concession workers, umpires, Board members, and many others
with energy and enthusiasm make the Little League program possible for our kids.  Get involved!
